The spring social calendar was packed with fashionable lunches. At the Latin Women’s Initiative’s annual affair — this year on Cinco de Mayo! — a runway presentation of a trio of designers concluded with a tequila toast. ... The Houston Symphony’s Wizard of Oz-themed children’s fashion show and family-friendly luncheon included adorable looks by Macy’s, and the popular instrument “petting zoo.” ... The Spirit of Spring event took over the ballroom of the Royal Sonesta hotel, raising $250,000 for the Children’s Assessment Center. The crowd of 450 was moved by the testimony of Rachel Thomas, a survivor of human trafficking.

The Beach Club at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina, next door to the USS Yorktown

THERE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL about an old-school Southern city, with its subtropical landscaping, old bricks, older trees and rib-sticking food everywhere, especially at the holidays.
