A pair of museums opened their doors for glam galas, beginning with the Blaffer Art Museum at UH. Its vibrant Colorsplash gala — chaired by Elin Jackson, Caroline Starry LeBlanc, Tamar Mendelssohn and Marit Babin Stout — featured rainbow-hued flowers and decor courtesy of Todd Events, and an auction filled with works by UH grads and other artists featured at the gallery. Colorfully clad guests donned funky sunglasses and danced the night away to beats by DJ Sun. ... And the CAMH’s annual gala and auction, featuring pieces by Floyd Newsum, Mark Flood and other prominent Houston artists, raised nearly half a million dollars for the museum.

Promise to Keep

Colorful Cuba served as the inspiration for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation’s annual Promise Ball. Nearly 1,000 galagoers — including members of the JDRF Young Leadership Committee, which hosted a Champagne-fueled afterparty — filled the ballroom of the Hilton Americas. Popular party band Skyrocket performed, and handsome H-Town magician Ben Jackson also put on a show for guests, who spent the evening savoring Cuban fare and playing casino games. A pair of successful auctions, featuring items like a yellow lab puppy and a trip to Italy, helped bring the total till to more than $1.6 million.

The U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship tennis tournament annually welcomes some of Houston’s most fashionable femmes — but not just to the grandstands. A fashion show and luncheon always kicks off the weekend in style. This year, delightful spring weather contributed to a successful showcase of seasonal looks by Tootsies, which has partnered with the tournament for three decades. Models — donning flowy fashions by Naeem Khan, Valentino and more — worked a runway that jutted out over the pool, and also walked through a crowd of 650.
