Houston is blessed with world-class theater-arts institutions — that know how to party! TUTS honored Jim and Helen Shaffer at its Havana-inspired Guys and Dolls-themed gala, which included a seated dinner on the Hobby Center’s Sarofim stage. Broadway stars joined students from TUTS’ Humphreys School and The River for spirited performances. Meanwhile, the Alley Theatre painted the town with its “Picasso and the Avant-Garde” gala, held at the Post Oak Hotel. The evening honored Lynn Wyatt and raised $1.2 million.

GOV. GREG ABBOTT has announced that all Texas businesses will be able to open 100 percent beginning March 10, adding that mask mandates will be lifted, according to multiple press reports. As a preemptive rebuttal to those concerned his actions are premature and could lead to a new wave of Covid cases, he set a new rule that allows county judges to override his policies if Covid hospitalizations rise above 15 percent capacity.
