GET READY TO glide! The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green has announced its 2023 Spring season. Beginning Friday, Houstonians can enjoy Discovery Green’s new and improved outdoor roller skating rink, now with a rubber subfloor (for healthier ankles and knees) and a fresh coat of brightly colored paint, ideal for selfie shots and Instagram shares. The rink is open through March 17.

Located in the center of Discovery Green’s beautiful 12-acre park, the popular rink is Downtown’s only outdoor roller rink, and is set to host five weeks of fun festivities with live, local DJs, curated music and light shows. Non-motorized wheelchairs are welcome.

Opening night (Feb. 10, 5-11pm) features music from DJ Yung Chris and roller derby demonstrations from members of the Daisies and Pancakes skate community, and the first 50 skaters in line to skate that evening will skate for free! The following week heralds the return of Rainbow on the Rink (Feb. 17, 7-10pm), an LGBTQ celebration with music by DJ Joe Ross, and performances by three of H-Town’s most resplendent drag queens: Angelina DM Trailz, Reign LaRue, and Ericka Sanchez.

Looking ahead, on Time Warp Tuesdays, skaters of a certain age can roll to “songs from decades past” spun by DJ Mohawk Steve. Clutch City Wednesdays offer discounted admission if you show up wearing any Houston sports team gear; FUNomenal Fridays feature a phenomenal light show and music by DJ Monstaa; and Skate Party Saturdays are dedicated to pop hits that sound as if they were recorded especially for the roller rink, all spun by DJ Boris.

Also new for The Rink this year is College Student Night: Students with a current college ID receive a discount on admission every Thursday.

More information about tickets, including a special deal for couples who want to cuddle and skate on Valentine’s Day, is available on the Discovery Green website.
