A pair of events celebrated great food and wine, beginning with the International Risotto Festival held at the Houston Design Center. Guests strolled about, stopping at chef stations to sample delicious risotto and antipasti. This year, proceeds from the event benefited Casa de Esperanza. And at the 10th annual Iron Sommelier wine-tasting event, benefiting the Periwikle Foundation and held at the Houstonian, some of the city’s top sommeliers prepared fun and informative presentations of wine for guests. Caracol’s Andres Blanco took home the winning title. Cheers!

IN A RECENT televised interview with late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert, Australian singer/songwriter Nick Cave eloquently described music as “one of the last legitimate opportunities we have to experience transcendence.” It was a surprisingly deep statement for a network comedy show, but anyone who has attended a loud, sweaty rock concert, or ballet performance with a live orchestra, knows what Cave is talking about.
