Keep It Fresh

More than 700 artists and supporters of the scene turned out for Fresh Arts’ Crystal Ball. The theme and subsequent dress code being open to interpretation, folks showed up in dresses channeling the Great Gatsby and costumes covered in head-to-toe crystals. The always-colorful event — which this year featured live painting by several local artists, body painting, performance art and custom installations — honored Fresh Arts Coalition founder Marita Fairbanks and raised $200,000.

What year was your organization launched? 1938

What is your mission? March of Dimes was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, to combat polio. The name “March of Dimes” was suggested by entertainer Eddie Cantor as a way to encourage people to donate even a small amount, like a dime, to help fight polio.
