STARTING TODAY, AUG. 1, through Sept. 4, restaurants rally the community to do good while eating well during Houston Restaurant Weeks founded by the late Cleverley Stone, and carried forth by her daughter, Katie Stone. For a month-plus, restaurants offer prix fixe menus and donate a portion of the proceeds to the Houston Food Bank. TOMORROW, JULY 29, at 7pm, Discovery Green celebrates Ukrainian culture with a special screening of Mavka: The Forest Song. The kid-friendly, computer animated fantasy film features a romantic story, plenty of cute forest creatures and humor, and lots of edge-of-your-seat (or blanket) excitement. With Houston temperatures finally out of the danger zone, the free family friendly event is a great way to chill out and enjoy the summer at one of downtown’s most attractive and greenest of green spaces.

“IMPERIAL ATTACK.” “PRINCESS Leia’s Theme.” “The Land of the Sand People.” The titles alone are enough to invoke the soaring melodies, magisterial harmonies, and martial rhythms of John Williams’ score to George Lucas’s 1977 film Star Wars (later rereleased as Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope). Williams’ musical leitmotivs for Princess Leia, Ben “Obi-Wan” Kenobi, and Darth Vader were as memorable as the characters themselves, and not surprisingly, the soundtrack became the best-selling symphonic album of all time. On July 28-29, the Houston Symphony presents a special screening of Star Wars, its dialogue and revolutionary Foley sounds intact, and all of the film’s musical cues performed live under the baton of guest conductor Nicholas Buc.
