Eating Green: The New Sunday Funday

Discovery Green is a packed house on hot summer days — between the splash pad, free activities and sought-after shade, it’s no wonder that finding a parking spot is a challenge.

But there are reasons beyond the kiddos to fight the crowds and schedule a family play date (adults welcome!) at the park. Sunday Funday lasts all day at The Grove, where the new buffet-style Brunch on the Green is, well, causing a stir: Grab a $15 mimosa, mojito, sangria or margarita, and enjoy one-cent refills the whole afternoon. The endless freshly baked breads and pastries complement the drink sitch nicely, and more substantial offerings — like pork-belly sliders, a build-your-own breakfast taco bar, and meyer lemon pancakes — are all included in the $35 fee (just $15 for the kids).

And the family-style Sunday Supper launches this weekend. Here, try coastal-cool dishes like campechana shooters and sautéed Gulf shrimp, and learn how to shuck your own oysters at the pop-up oyster bar. The 40-seat event, which begins at 5:30pm, is $50 per person — but unlike at brunch, this ticket also includes a welcome cocktail, valet and gratuity. Wine pairings are available for an additional $20. Future dates include Aug. 19 and Sept. 9.

The fun isn’t contained to just Sunday. With refreshing new cocktails like the Citrus Paradisi — boasting fresh muddled grapefruit, Serrano, thyme and Deep Eddy’s Ruby Red — The Grove’s new Tree House Happy Hour, on Aug. 17 and Sept. 3, is a delicious way to cool off after work. Cheers to beating the heat!
