Curtain Calls

The Alley Theatre toasted two plays with opening-night dinners. The world premiere of Suzanne Vega’s Lover, Beloved: An Evening with Carson McCullers was the first production to take the stage in the new Neuhaus Theatre, restored after Hurricane Harvey. Dozens of patrons joined managing director Dean Gladden to mark the occasion with a City Kitchen-catered dinner before the show. And just a couple weeks later, patrons enjoyed a seated dinner with playwright and director Terry Teachout before the opening of his Satchmo at the Waldorf.

IT'S BEEN A century since what’s now known as the Museum of Fine Arts Houston debuted, and the society set celebrated the 100-year milestone in high style. Some 375 guests turned out for the 2024 Grand Gala Ball at the museum, raising $5.5 million in total, including Nancy and Rich Kinder’s $1 million gift and another hefty gift from J. Venn Leeds.
