The holiday season brought festive shopping opportunities. The DASH fall market kicked off with a preview party at Silver Street Studios, where a well heeled crowd enjoyed live music while perusing offerings from 75-plus vendors. And at Winter Street Studios, the Art on the Avenue event featured works by nearly 300 artists — paintings, jewelry, sculptures and more — all on sale with proceeds benefiting the artists and Avenue CDC.

AS HOUSTON SLOWLY recovers from last week’s severe derecho, it is strangely serendipitous that on May 25 and 26, a little over a week after that unexpected drama, the Houston Symphony will perform composer John Adams’ critically acclaimed Nativity oratorio El Niño, named after the 1997 meteorological phenomenon and precursor to what we now refer to as “weird weather.”
